What’s Coming Next Month: May 2021

hello may in letters on grass

Join us in May for live webinars on a wide variety of topics, including racism and Parkinson's, pregnancy and contraception for people with Parkinson's, and how light and nature can help you live well today. Also, back by popular demand is a workshop led by Davis Phinney Foundation Ambassador Lorraine Wilson, in which she will show you how easy and beneficial creativity can be. And, as the weather gets warmer and we turn to the outdoors for exercise and play, be sure to check out one of our many Team DPF events that will inspire you to move and support others living with Parkinson's in the process.

During this session, our YOPD Council leaders will talk about the many ways sun and natural light help them live well with Parkinson’s. To register, click here.

Health Disparities and Parkinson’s: Structural Racism and Oppression
Thursday, May 27, 2021
1 pm Mountain Daylight Time (12 pm PDT, 2 pm CDT, 3 pm EDT, 7 pm GMT)
Since 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the myriad ways that structural racism and oppression affect healthcare and health outcomes, including wellbeing and quality of life. These same systemic issues plague the Parkinson’s community and result in care inequities and disparities that disproportionately affect people of color, women, people with limited English proficiency, and more. In this conversation, Nicte I. Mejia, MD, MPH, FAAN, and Aswita Tan-McGrory, MSPH, will discuss how these systems of racism and oppression affect our community, and how we can take these learnings and create the change needed to ensure all people can live well with Parkinson’s.
