Welcome! We’re so glad you found your way here.

We’re excited to let you know that as of May 5, 2023, PD SELF® has found a new home with the Davis Phinney Foundation. We are so grateful to the founder Diane Cook for trusting us with moving this program forward so it can reach and help even more people with Parkinson's live well.

We have a lot of new ideas to share, so if you would like to be kept up to date on upcoming webinars, course start dates, and more, please be sure to sign up for those by clicking the button below.

PD SELF is a national program for people with Parkinson’s who have been diagnosed within the last three years. This program provides people with the motivation, confidence, skills, and knowledge needed to improve their quality of life through self-efficacy.

Currently, the course is delivered virtually via Zoom. In the past, it has also been offered in person, and we are exploring ways to do that again, in addition to keeping virtual options for those who prefer them or can only access them online.

The program in its current form is eight modules, once every two weeks, for four months. There is also an online learning platform that complements the live classes that you can go through at your own pace.

It is designed for people who have been diagnosed within the past three years. However, depending on each person's situation, there is some flexibility with that. Additionally, while having a care partner is not required, we do encourage care partners to participate as we provide all those affected by Parkinson's with educational tools to live well.

The course is led by two facilitators. It is often a person with Parkinson's and a care partner, a person with Parkinson's and a Parkinson's specialist such as a physical therapist or another allied health professional (AHP), or a Parkinson's care partner and AHP.  Each facilitator goes through instructor training to prepare themselves to run a cohort. There are often many cohorts running at the same time. Last time we ran eight!

We aim to keep each cohort small so that everyone can get to know each other and feel comfortable talking about difficult issues. This usually means between 30-35 people, so that we can do smaller breakout rooms of four or five people.

Yes! We have run multiple cohorts in Spanish and hope to do so again if there is enough interest.

We are aiming for early 2024 and already have a long waiting list! So, if you want to be kept it in the loop, be sure to register for updates by clicking the button below.
