Welcome! We’re so glad you're here.

As of September 2024, we have decided to postpone scheduling future sessions of PD SELF while we explore new ways to deliver the program.

Despite this postponement, we remain here for you. Please email us at [email protected] if you have questions or if we might help in any way as you navigate living well with Parkinson’s. Our ambassadors are also available for you. Use our ambassador search tool to find an ambassador near you or to find an ambassador with whom you share an interest.

Also, if you haven’t already done so, please consider signing up for our monthly newsletter to ensure you have the most up-to-date information about our educational and community engagement programs.

“Because of the PD SELF course, I have completely changed my outlook on Parkinson’s and what’s possible for me. I have tried so many new things, met incredible people I now call friends, and have actually made my life bigger. Thank you!!” - PD SELF participant

We are currently evaluating the timing of future PD Self sessions.

PD SELF is a national program for people with Parkinson’s that provides self-efficacy skill building in motivation, confidence, and knowledge needed to improve quality of life.

Starting in 2020, the course has been delivered virtually via Zoom. We are currently evaluating additional delivery options.

Most recently, the program has consisted of eight modules, once every two weeks, for four months. Participants have had access to an online learning management system where they accessed homework, resources, and had the ability to connect with others in the course.

We are currently evaluating whether there are alternative ways PD SELF modules can be delivered.

The program is currently designed for people who have been diagnosed within the last three years. Our goal is for future sessions not to have a diagnosis timeframe constraint (i.e., you can participate no matter when you were diagnosed).

Additionally, while having a care partner is not required, we do encourage care partners to participate as we provide all those affected by Parkinson’s with educational tools to live well.

The course is led by two facilitators, which can be any combination of the following:

  • A person with Parkinson’s
  • A care partner
  • A Parkinson’s specialist such as a physical therapist, licensed clinical social worker, nurse practitioner, or other healthcare professional (HCP)

Each facilitator goes through training to prepare to facilitate a cohort.

Historically, yes. We have run multiple cohorts in Spanish and hope to do so again if there is enough interest.

At present, we are considering the optimal manner and timing for delivery of this important program.
