10 Year Anniversary of Louisiana Walks for Parkinson's logoMETAIRIE, LA - The New Orleans Parkinson's community will hold the Louisiana Walks (LA Walks) for Parkinson's on Saturday, October 14, on Pavilion Island at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, LA. Louisiana Walks benefits the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's and is a celebration of living well complete with two handicap accessible walking routes, local food and beverages, a silent auction, parade of prizes raffle, live music by Flip Side Band of NOLA, and local resources for people with Parkinson's.

Since the first event in partnership with the Davis Phinney Foundation in 2017, LA Walks has raised over $370,000 to help support the Foundation's mission to help people with Parkinson's live well today. This year, the goal is to raise $115,000. In addition to supporting resources nationally, this year's walk is dedicated in loving memory of John Humphreys who was a tireless advocate for Parkinson's locally and nationally and participated in hundreds of clinical trials and research studies.

Annually, the Davis Phinney Foundation reaches hundreds of thousands of people affected by Parkinson's. Parkinson's is the fastest-growing neurodegenerative disease in the world, and more than 90,000 people are diagnosed with Parkinson's every year in the US. Events like LA Walks for Parkinson's help raise awareness about Parkinson's and provide critical resources people need to live well with it.

The Davis Phinney Foundation was founded by Olympic cyclist Davis Phinney in 2004 to help people with Parkinson's live well today. The Foundation focuses on providing programs, early-stage research, and resources to help people living with Parkinson's improve their quality of life. Parkinson's is the number two neurodegenerative disease, second to Alzheimer's, and affects more than one million people in the United States. The Foundation's work impacts hundreds of thousands of individuals and families annually.

Team DPF is the grassroots fundraising community that supports the Davis Phinney Foundation through participation in athletic and community-based events. With a focus on fun, personal empowerment, and fundraising for Parkinson's, Team DPF welcomes all ages and abilities. Team DPF also extends to runners, climbers, swimmers, community events, and more, with roots in cycling. Team DPF is sponsored by: Sur Phytopeformance, Primal Wear, Rick Baker Insurance, Wahoo SYSTM, Skratch Labs, Wild Bill's Warriors and Catrike.

Louisiana Walks is a unique event that seeks to increase Parkinson's awareness and promote the mission of the Davis Phinney Foundation; to help people with Parkinson's live well today. Proceeds from the event help raise funds to support educational and inspirational programs and quality of life research. This volunteer-driven event is designed to celebrate the Parkinson's community and honor the lives of people living with Parkinson's. Contributions made through the event are critical to furthering the Davis Phinney Foundation's important work.
