When the Davis Phinney Foundation was established in 2004, Davis wanted its mission to be different from that of other existing Parkinson’s organizations. While a cure for Parkinson’s is what we all wanted, we also knew that people desperately needed better information about how to live well with Parkinson’s right now.
So, the Foundation’s mission—then and now—is to help people with Parkinson’s live well today. The Every Victory Counts® manual is an integral part of fulfilling that mission. The manual embraces the Davis Phinney Foundation’s philosophy of taking action to improve your quality of life with Parkinson’s.
In our newest edition of the Every Victory Counts manual, you’ll find updates on everything from surgical therapies to research, nutrition, self-care, medications, and more. There are new stories from people living with Parkinson’s who share how they’re living well, and new contributions from Parkinson’s experts about how you, too, can do so. We also reorganized the content so it’s easier to follow and digest and made simple changes to font color, font size, and paper to make it easier to read.
To make the manual more physically accessible, we moved the worksheets and handouts to the Every Victory Counts companion website, where you can also find printable discussion guides and a continually updated collection of Parkinson’s articles, videos, webinars, and more.
In addition to the launch of the sixth edition of the main manual, we have also published the first edition of a manual created just for Parkinson’s care partners. Throughout this new manual, readers can dive into some of the most frequently asked questions from care partners, with responses from our team, Parkinson’s experts, and fellow care partners. The manual is designed to be accessible to all care partners, whether they’re caring for someone young, newly diagnosed, or in the advanced stages of Parkinson’s.
The key to living well with Parkinson’s today is actively choosing to do what will result in your best quality of life. Be informed, be engaged, be connected, be courageous, and be active. Each day will bring new challenges and opportunities for positive change. Remember, your daily triumphs, large or small, are worth celebrating: Every Victory Counts!
