Each month, we spotlight Moments of Victory® from people in our community. Today, we are happy to feature Kerry Howard, one of our Davis Phinney Foundation Ambassadors who lives in Juneau, Alaska.

What has your journey with Parkinson's been like since your diagnosis?

A diagnosis of Parkinson's is a game-changer. In the six years since my diagnosis, I went from despair to acceptance to actively doing whatever I can to live well with this disease.

How do you live well with Parkinson's?

My recipe for living well includes a good diet, daily exercise, pursuing interests I love, and a positive attitude. Also key for me is getting outside in nature every day because having regular contact with nature enriches my soul and my life.

what do you wish you had known when you were diagnosed with parkinson's?

Everyone's journey with Parkinson's will be different. And there are things you can do to help alter its course.

What do you wish everyone living with Parkinson's knew about living well?

Living well is a personal choice and for each person living with Parkinson's, experiences may look different. The key is taking the time to define what "living well" is for you and then taking active steps to achieve it. Don't wait for things to get easier, simpler, better. Life will always be complicated; learn to be happy right now.

SHARE YOUR VICTORY
