New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) and Parkinson’s

Our work in Louisiana began many years ago when we hosted The Victory Summit® event in New Orleans in November 2016. Since then, we have partnered with Louisiana Walks for Parkinson’s to host annual community events in Metairie, LA, beginning in 2017, minus COVID years, to host The Victory Summit Virtual Event for the Baton Rouge community, and to support and train Ambassadors, Michelle Lane and Jan Grimes.

That’s why we were excited to provide a grant for the New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) in 2022.

What is the new orleans ballet association (noba) and how do they help people with Parkinson’s?

NOBA’s Dance for Parkinson’s (Dance for PD®) program has been offering free, ongoing creative movement classes for people with Parkinson’s or other similar mobility challenges, as well as family members, care partners, and friends, for over five years. Now, through its CHAMPIONING MOVEMENT project, NOBA aims to provide critical support for under-resourced groups and rural areas in Southeast Louisiana. With a focus on recovery and discovery, the project’s overarching goal is to empower people of all backgrounds with Parkinson’s throughout the region to thrive and live well today and into the future.

Recently, our community grants program manager, Kayla Ferguson, sat down with key leaders of the program, Millete White Lin and Jaelyn Robinson, to talk about the goals of the project, the challenges they face, and how this can serve as a compelling model for those working to create healthy Parkinson’s communities in their area. You can watch their conversation below.

If you prefer to read the transcript of the interview, you can download that here.

Thank you, Millet and Jaelyn! We look forward to hearing about all of the great work you are doing in your community for years to come.
