MOMENTS OF VICTORY® – Chris Daigre is Grateful for What He can Still Do

Each month, we spotlight Moments of Victory® from people in our community. Today, we are happy to feature Chris Daigre, a Davis Phinney Foundation Ambassador from Seattle, Washington..

What has your experience with Parkinson’s been like since your diagnosis?

I am a full-time dance and fitness instructor. After being diagnosed, I made a commitment to continue teaching because I realized the movements I had been doing kept my Parkinson’s symptoms at bay. The effects were so profound, it made me want to share my experience with others in the Parkinson’s community. I started teaching a dance class for people with Parkinson’s, and the response to the class has been great. An added bonus has been being part of the most encouraging, supportive, and inclusive environment I’ve ever known.

How do you live well each day?

I live well each day by accepting what I can no longer do and being grateful for what I can still do.

CHRIS DAIGRE - Davis Phinney Foundation

What do you wish you would’ve known when you were diagnosed with Parkinson’s?

I wish I would have known how much control one can have over the progression of the disease. Living a healthy lifestyle is as important—or often more important—than taking sustained medications.

What do you wish everyone with Parkinson’s knew about living well?

Living well is a foundational way of dealing with Parkinson’s. There is something you can do every day to maintain a positive outlook as the disease progresses. When your behavioral foundation is established, healthy daily actions become the norm.

SHARE YOUR VICTORY

Each month, we spotlight people from our Parkinson’s community who embody living well today – what we call Moments of Victory®. Your story, like Chris’s, could be featured on our blog and Facebook page so others can learn from your experiences and victories.
