Ever since we posted the 5 reasons to start a women’s only Parkinson’s support group, and we had a live breakout session for women only at The Victory Summit® event in Portland, we’ve had a lot of people who’ve requested we take it a step further by creating a guide potential facilitators could use to start and run their own group.
So we did. It’s called: How to Start a Women’s Only Parkinson’s Support Group: a guide for facilitators.
You can download it for free here.
This guide was written especially for women, though the principles are useful for many different types of groups. We created it for women because we’ve learned over the past 14 years of working with people living with Parkinson’s that women’s needs are different in many ways. They experience Parkinson’s differently than men, they communicate differently than men and they want a different support group experience than men.
If you read through the guide and decide you’d like to proceed, we encourage you to share this resource with potential co-facilitators or others in your network who may be interested in starting a women’s only Parkinson’s support group in their communities.
Also, if you have experience in gender-specific groups, we’d love to hear about them so please leave us a note in the comments.
We hope the information in our guide gives you the confidence you need to start a women’s only Parkinson’s support group. We have heard from so many women how instrumental these groups have been in helping them live well and stay positive during their Parkinson’s journey.
