In 2018, I was asked by my supervisor if I would be interested in becoming a Rock Steady Boxing Coach. I jumped on the opportunity and then asked, “What is Rock Steady Boxing?”

I entered the Parkinson’s community through the back door. Many times, people get involved because they receive a diagnosis, are a care partner, or have a family member who is living with Parkinson’s. Not me. At first, I felt like an outsider, but I quickly learned that no matter how you are connected to Parkinson’s, be it through a diagnosis or obtaining a certification, you are immediately part of the family. Becoming a Rock Steady Boxing Coach and PWR! Instructor in 2018 changed my life for the better. I have gained so much from working with the Parkinson’s community, and I believe joining the Ambassador program helps further support the community that has given me so much. I hope that helping set folks off on the right path early in their diagnosis will remove some of the guesswork and help them learn many early intervention strategies.

Being outdoors, whether at the beach, on the water, working in the yard, or in the woods, recharges my soul and helps me live well today. With four grade-school children, two dogs, and two cats, my household can get busy! Any chance we can be active outside together is a treat.
