Susan Helm-Murtagh, DrPH, MM
Board Chair
Susan Helm-Murtagh, DrPH, MM, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she teaches leadership, health systems structure and policy, and strategic planning to executive masters students and doctoral candidates. In addition, she is Principal of DreamWork Consulting, LLC (a non-profit leadership and strategic planning consulting firm) and co-founder and director of The Ellie Helm Foundation. She served as board chair for the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), a non-profit, physical activity-based positive youth development organization, from 2018-2022. Susan has more than a decade of experience in non-profit board leadership and governance.
Previously, she was a vice president at Mosaic Health Solutions (a division of Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina), where she was responsible for building and managing — through acquisition, investment, and development — a portfolio of health solutions products and services centered on information technology, analytics, and consumer engagement. Susan has over twenty-five years of health care payer experience, including analytics, information management, strategic development, application development, marketing, and operations.
Susan holds a bachelor of science degree in psychology and management from Duke University, a master’s of management (with distinction) in marketing and finance from the JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and a DrPH from the Gillings School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She currently resides with her husband, Rory, in Boulder, CO.
