Asleep Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)

David VanSickle, MD, PhD is one of a small but growing number of neurosurgeons in the U.S. who is performing Asleep DBS surgery for Parkinson’s disease. Dr. VanSickle takes viewers into the operating room, where he discusses the history and application of DBS as a surgical therapy and shows some of the technology that assists doctors before, during and after surgery, as well as the components that are implanted in the body. Both asleep and awake DBS techniques are discussed, with emphasis on the potential advantages afforded by the new asleep approach.
