As a speech-language pathologist of more than 20 years, I had the opportunity to provide medical therapy for Parkinson’s. I have completed several certifications including the SPEAK OUT program! This program helps patients work on their voice and teaches them to be more aware of using their voice with purpose so that they can speak with a clearer tone. Another part of my role as speech-language pathologist is to help patients with problems with swallowing, one of the symptoms of Parkinson’s. Many patients ask, “What is the connection between speech and swallowing?” The connection is that we are using the same muscles that connect the tongue, teeth, taste, etc. for eating and speaking.
Living with Parkinson’s is being able to achieve. You must maintain physical and mental activity to maintain the level of functioning as much as possible. What motivates me is seeing my patients exceed their goals.
I decided to become an ambassador to bring education to the Hispanic population and make them aware of the important role of therapies with Parkinson’s, especially speech-language pathologists.
What motivates me to serve as an ambassador is the power of this platform to help more people with Parkinson’s live well and how they can use therapies to improve their lives.
My favorite hobbies include spending time with my family and dog, Bentley.
